Subaru Teases the WRX TR Sports Car

The premiere of the “charged” version of the Japanese brand’s model will take place at the end of next week, on October 7th, at the Subiefest festival in Florida, USA.

For the Subaru brand, one of the priority markets remains the United States, so it’s not surprising that Americans were the first to receive the new generation WRX sedan. Recall that the model changed its name from Impreza WRX to simply WRX back in 2014, and in September 2021, the Japanese company fully unveiled the current four-door version. During the last generation change, the model moved to the modular SGP platform (Subaru Global Platform).

Now, the Japanese manufacturer is working on creating another “hot” version of the sports car – the Subaru WRX TR. The company has promised to present this “hot” new model soon, emphasizing that it is intended for “enthusiasts.” This four-door model will make its debut at the Subiefest festival in Florida, which will take place at the end of next week on October 7th.

Subaru accompanied the announcement with only one teaser: the image features a wheel fitted with low-profile tires and a dark gray alloy wheel, with the Japanese brand’s emblem in the center. Behind the “rims,” you can see red Brembo brake calipers. Details about how the TR version will differ from other WRX models will presumably be revealed during the premiere.

The current sports sedan from Subaru has a length of 4669 mm, and the wheelbase measures 2672 mm. Its front end, with the headlights, grille, and bumper design, is the same as the Subaru Levorg wagon offered in the USA. The sedan also features plastic wheel arch extensions and lightweight aluminum front fenders. The model can be equipped with either 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels.

The current Subaru WRX is powered by a 275-horsepower turbocharged FA24 engine with a displacement of 2.4 liters, producing a maximum torque of 350 Nm. In the base version, this engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, with a CVT automatic available as an option. All-wheel drive is standard.

Currently, the Subaru WRX sedan is available in four configurations on the American market – Base, Premium, Limited, and GT. The cost of the current top-tier version is $43,395, and it comes equipped with electronically controlled dampers, Recaro bucket seats with electric adjustment, and driving modes such as Comfort, Normal, and Sport, which affect the engine, transmission, and suspension settings. The pricing for the new “hot” version of the four-door model will be announced later.

It’s worth noting that in July of this year, as part of the Subiefest festival in California, the Japanese company unveiled the BRZ tS. This sports car features enhanced chassis components, including lightweight Hitachi shock absorbers tuned by STI specialists. Additionally, this version is equipped with more powerful Brembo brakes with gold-colored calipers compared to other versions. The front brake discs have a diameter of 325 mm with four-piston calipers, while the rear discs measure 315 mm with two-piston calipers.
