Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport: Track-Focused (But Not Racing) Sports Car with a Unique Body

Porsche has rolled out another expensive toy for its select clientele – the limited-edition track-focused sports car, the 911 GT3 R rennsport. It is based on the racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of the 992 generation but features a more elegant design and a more powerful engine. The price tag exceeds one million dollars!

The Porsche 911 GT3 R of the 992 generation, which made its debut last year, is designed for racing, meeting all the strict FIA requirements and sporting a rather monstrous and purely functional aerodynamic kit. However, many Porsche customers desire a racing car without any ties to specific competitions, simply as a track-day machine. Porsche regularly produces such models, with the latest example being the Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport. Its premiere took place at the legendary Laguna Seca raceway in California, considered one of the world’s most challenging tracks.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport complies with FIA safety regulations but deviates from the regulations when it comes to the body and mechanics. The power of the 4.2-liter naturally aspirated 6-cylinder flat-six engine has been increased from 565 to 620 hp, featuring new, more durable pistons and camshafts, along with revised control software. In the 6-speed sequential gearbox that transmits all the power to the rear wheels, gear ratios have been altered, resulting in a 20 km/h increase in maximum speed. On tracks where permitted, you can drive without a muffler and enjoy the high-revving crescendo of the racing engine, capable of revving up to 9,000 rpm.

The chassis is nearly identical to the racing version of the model, featuring adjustable KW shock absorbers and powerful AP Racing brakes. The mass of the latter has been reduced by approximately one kilogram by using titanium components in the calipers. Michelin tires have been specifically developed for the Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport and are mounted on intricate 18-inch forged BBS wheels.

The external bodywork of the Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport is almost entirely new, with only the hood and roof borrowed from the racing 911 GT3 R. The body has been slightly widened, and the front bumper with side canards has a more elegant design. At the rear, there is a new massive wing reminiscent of classic racing Porsches. The design of the rear bumper has been completely revamped, with the diffuser integrated more organically than in the racing sports car, without compromising on effectiveness.

The exterior rearview mirrors have been replaced with three cameras, and their images are displayed on monitors installed in the typical racing cockpit, which is nearly the same as the one in the racing 911 GT3 R. There are no passenger seats or air conditioning, but the driver’s seat is equipped with ventilation. Overall, the track-focused Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport is even lighter than the racing Porsche 911 GT3 R, with a curb weight of 1240 and 1250 kg, respectively.

The Porsche 911 GT3 R rennsport will be produced in a limited edition of 77 units, and the color scheme is not necessarily the same as shown in the photos. Buyers can choose from seven primary colors and three exclusive multicolor liveries. The starting price for this track-focused sports car is $1,046,000 USD.
