Crossover Honda Prologue, made in collaboration with GM: specs, trims, and price

The electric SUV from the Japanese brand will be available with one or two electric motors to choose from, with a single battery for all versions.

The design of the Honda Prologue electric crossover was revealed in October of last year. Now, Honda’s American division has shared details about the technology. However, all specifications have not been fully disclosed, and those that are known are still preliminary. Nevertheless, the company has announced trim levels and their equipment, along with an approximate starting price. But we’ll get back to that later.

Recall that the five-seater Prologue is specifically designed for North America, and it is not Honda’s independent development: the SUV is based on the Ultium platform of General Motors, which is also used, for example, for the ‘green’ Chevrolet Blazer EV and Chevrolet Equinox EV. By the way, the premium Honda sub-brand’s electric crossover, the Acura ZDX, is also based on the same ‘chassis,’ although it has different internals.

The length of the Honda Prologue is 4877 mm, width – 1989 mm, height – 1643 mm, and the wheelbase – 3094 mm. The declared trunk volume is 714 liters (according to the American method), and with the second-row seats folded, this figure will be 1634 liters. The company itself has not provided information about the front compartment, but local specialized media report that it does not exist.

The crossover will be available with one or two electric motors, meaning front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Moreover, for an additional fee, the dual-motor setup can be ordered for both the base EX version and the mid-range Touring trim, while the top-of-the-line Prologue Elite comes with it as standard. The power of each motor has not been announced yet, but the total output of the all-wheel-drive crossover is known – 292 hp and 451 Nm of torque. There is currently one battery available with a capacity of 85 kWh. The front-wheel-drive version has a range of 483 km according to the American EPA cycle. The model comes with a direct current charging device with a power of up to 155 kWh (for reference, the related Chevrolet Blazer EV has a direct current device with 190 kWh capacity)

All versions of the Honda Prologue come with a virtual instrument cluster (11 inches), an 11.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system, eight airbags, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and the Honda Sensing safety suite (adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, etc.)

Starting from the Touring trim, leather seats, driver’s seat memory settings, and a panoramic sunroof become available. The top-tier Elite version adds ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and a Sport driving mode. The EX and Touring versions of the crossover come with 19-inch wheels, while the Elite rides on 21-inch wheels.

Honda stated that the price of the Prologue will start at approximately $40,000, excluding taxes and delivery charges, but also excluding incentives. For comparison, the starting price of the related Chevrolet Blazer EV is a minimum of $56,715 (Chevy initially offered a “budget” version for $45,000, but it was eventually canceled)

In the US, sales of the Honda Prologue electric crossover will begin next year. In 2025, the brand plans to introduce an electric car of its own design to the American market.
