Mazda6 first appeared in the model range of the Japanese brand in 2002, it was then that the first generation of the sedan was introduced, made on a common platform with the Ford Mondeo. The car replaced the 626 model, which was produced from 1978 to 2005. Today, the third generation of the “six” is on the conveyor, and it can be called a long-liver of the modern automotive market, because it has been produced since 2012. For ten years, the model has received two significant restyling, the first of which was in 2015, and the last in 2018. The need for a generational change has been long overdue, and almost 3 years ago, Mazda announced the development of inline 6-cylinder engines and a rear-wheel drive platform. Most recently, the first model that received these developments was presented – the CX-60 crossover.. This is what we used as a stylistic reference for our renders.

The first thing that would be affected by the transition to a new rear-wheel drive platform is the proportions. The bonnet becomes noticeably longer, the distance between the front axle and the front doors increases, and the overhang becomes shorter. We can observe all this in the new CX-60. A design feature of the new Mazda models has become a more angular shape of various elements – including the grille and headlights. As before, the grille is visually integrated with the head optics, while the car received a new graphics of LED daytime running lights. The sidewalls have become simpler in shape, and decorative inserts have been placed in the front fenders. The shape of the side glazing has changed a little, but at the back, the main element has become elongated lights, deep on the trunk lid. And the license plate is now located in the rear bumper, a similar solution has been applied to the new Mazda3.

Unfortunately, in March, information appeared that the project of the new Mazda6 could be curtailed .due to the fact that the Japanese company decided to focus on crossovers. However, if such a car appeared, it would certainly technically have much in common with the new CX-60. In the European market, the SUV is offered with three options for power plants. Among them are two mild hybrids based on new 6-cylinder engines – the petrol 3.0 e-Skyactiv X and the diesel 3.3 e-Skyactiv D. There is also a plug-in hybrid with a redesigned 4-cylinder 2.5 Skyactiv-G (192 hp, 261 Nm) , paired with a 136-horsepower electric motor (250 Nm). The total output of the system is 327 hp. and 500 Nm of torque. Thanks to her, the crossover has a claimed acceleration time to “hundreds” in 5.8 seconds. All versions are equipped with a new 8-speed “automatic” with multi-plate clutch and an integrated electric motor that replaces the torque converter.
