And for customers in the US and Canada, Mazda has prepared a pair of crossovers with a wider body: the CX-70 with two rows of seats and the large CX-90 with three rows of seats. As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, these cars will be based on a new platform with a longitudinal engine. It is assumed that the “wide” American SUV will continue to be supplied to other markets: where there will be a demand for such cars.

Mazda CX-90 teaser

Mazda CX-90 will be the largest car in the brand’s new premium family of models . Today, the Japanese manufacturer showed the first teaser of the future novelty: the picture shows a part of the body with a wheel arch, a hood and a decorative element, obviously demonstrating that an in-line six-cylinder engine will be used as a “filling”: now the manufacturer has officially confirmed this. There are no other details about the technique yet. The company also noted that the large crossover will receive a new red color, “specially designed for premium cars.”

The Mazda CX-90 is likely to have hybrid versions, including a plug-in hybrid, according to preliminary data, as the Japanese manufacturer aims to electrify its entire model line by 2030. True, it is not necessary that such options will be based on the in-line “six”, it may be a four-cylinder engine (a similar system was announced back in 2019).

It is assumed that the Mazda CX-90 will replace the current crossover Mazda CX-9. Note, according to the Carsalesbase website, last year the results of this SUV in the US increased by 24.8% to 34,493 copies. This year, the model has a negative trend – in the first ten months, Americans bought 26,860 cars, which is 13.8% less than in January-October 2021.

Together with the first teaser, the company today published the premiere time of the Mazda CX-90: the novelty will debut in January 2023, the model will appear on sale later, most likely as a car of the 2024 model year. Probably before the premiere there will be new images of the future three-row SUV, designed for the US market.

Meanwhile, sales of the first-born of the Large Product Group’s premium line – the Mazda CX-60 two-row crossover – have already started in Europe. The first cars reached buyers in June, and in general, in the first four months of presence in the old-world market (so far there are data only through September), the model sold 3863 copies.
