Mazda shared its plans for its most important markets in October last year: then it became known about a new premium family, which the manufacturer designated as the Large Product Group. As part of the project, several new crossovers will be released in 2022-2023. One of them was introduced in March of this year: we are talking about a two-row SUV CX-60 , which is intended for Europe and Japan. Later, the model line for these markets promises to replenish the three-row SUV – CX-80 (its premiere is expected in mid-2023).

Mazda is preparing a couple more crossovers with a wider body for customers in the US and Canada (later they can go to other markets if there is demand for them). Here we are talking about the CX-70 with two rows of seats and the large three-row CX-90. As it became known earlier, these SUVs will be based on a new platform with a longitudinal engine.

Before the premiere of the “big brother” – Mazda CX-90 – there is very little time left, it is scheduled for the next month. This model will be the largest crossover in the brand’s new premium family. The manufacturer published the first teaser of the novelty in the middle of last month: the image showed a part of the body with a wheel arch, a hood and a decorative element, which indicates that an in-line six-cylinder engine will be used as a “filling”. At the same time, the company noted that the CX-90 will receive a new red color, created specifically for premium line models.

Now there is a second teaser of Mazda’s three-row SUV. With it, the company also confirmed another assumption regarding technology: that the CX-90 will not only have variants with in-line sixes, but also a rechargeable hybrid. The photo shows that the corresponding nameplate – e-Skyactiv PHEV – is located on the tailgate of the crossover. The manufacturer noted that such a CX-90 will be equipped with “a completely new e-Skyactiv power plant, tuned specifically for the North American market.”

There is no official data on this system yet, however, according to preliminary data, it will have a lot in common with the hybrid installation of the old-world crossover CX-60. Recall that it is based on a four-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of 2.5 liters, which works in tandem with an electric motor. The total power is 327 hp and the maximum torque is 500 Nm.

The new Mazda CX-90 teaser also shows a stern section and a horizontally elongated taillight. The person holding the charging cable is not yet in focus: judging by the picture, the connector for “electric charging” of the PHEV system battery is on the passenger side of the novelty.

It is possible that the Mazda CX-90 will replace the current Mazda CX-9 crossover in the US market. Although there is a chance that they will be sold in parallel, because the CX-5 remained after the CX-50 entered the market . It is assumed that the new three-row crossover will reach dealers in the United States in the second half of 2023.
