Lucid’s roots go back to 2007, but it wasn’t until last fall that it launched its first model, the large, expensive Air electric sedan , which is a more luxurious counterpart to the Tesla Model S and outperforms it in many ways. Production volumes of Lucid Air are still small, this year the company’s main plant in Casa Grande (USA, Arizona) plans to produce from 6,000 to 7,000 electric vehicles, while the number of pre-orders for Air exceeds 32,000.

Last fall, Lucid also announced its second model , the Gravity crossover, which will be as unified as possible with the Air sedan in terms of technology and design, but at the same time has a higher market potential. This week, Lucid announced that it will begin accepting applications for the Gravity in early 2023, at which time its key characteristics will be known, and production will begin only in 2024

In a recent press release, Lucid says the Gravity will have record-breaking aerodynamic performance among crossovers and a record-breaking range on a single charge. For reference, let’s say that the  Lucid Air’s  coefficient after the recent body optimization is only 0.197 (only the Dutch solar car Lightyear 0 is cooler , with x \u003d 0.175), and the most long-range version of the Dream Edition with a 118 kWh battery can drive one charge 837 km on the EPA cycle.

Lucid Gravity will be offered with a two- or three-row cabin, the maximum number of seats is 7, in the second row there can be a three-seater sofa or two separate captain’s chairs. In all cases, there will be more than enough space for luggage – the company promises miracles in terms of layout and a particularly large front trunk. A record glazing area has also been announced: there will be a giant window above the heads of passengers in the second and third rows for admiring the starry sky, and the power elements of the roof are assigned to the first row.

The Gravity will be predominantly a road crossover, with sport-tuned adaptive air suspension, while the top-of-the-line Sapphire will have supercar dynamics. Recall that the Air sedan got a version of Sapphire last summer : the three-engine power plant here produces over 1200 hp, acceleration to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) takes 1.89 s, top speed is 330 km/h . The current Lucid Air price range is $87,400 to $249,000, with the Gravity crossover likely to be even more expensive.

We add that the main shareholder of Lucid is the State Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), its share in the company is 61.1%, and the government of Saudi Arabia intends to purchase up to 100,000 Lucid electric vehicles within ten years. The second plant of the company will be located in the same country .
