Compact Nissan Dayz models have been updated to match the Pathfinder and Serena after the facelift

The appearance of the kei cars has been updated to match the current brand style, and the vehicles have also received new equipment. In addition, special versions will be offered to customers.

The related compact models Nissan Dayz and Mitsubishi eK of the current generation debuted in 2019, and their production is handled by the joint venture NMKV (Nissan Mitsubishi Kei Vehicle). It’s time for a planned facelift, and Nissan’s family is the first to be presented. By the way, the models of the previous generation were the cause of a fuel scandal, which ultimately led to Mitsubishi joining the Renault-Nissan alliance (responsible for producing Mitsubishi cars understated their fuel consumption). But let’s get back to the updated Nissan kei car.

As before, the hatchback is available in two versions – standard and “youthful,” with the latter bearing the name Dayz Highway Star. Both versions have received a new front grille: the grids and the massive V-shaped chrome insert are no longer there. Instead, there are now thin and partially shiny lines. In the case of the “youthful” five-door version, there are more of these elements, and they are arranged in a row, similar to the Nissan Serena minivan and the Chinese crossover Nissan Pathfinder. The compact Dayz Highway Star has also received a new front bumper, and the range of body colors and wheel options has been expanded.

Inside, they improved the front panel: the passenger side tray became deeper, and there’s now a “flap” under the cup holder to prevent spillage. In some trim levels, they have replaced the interior materials. The equipment list has been expanded to include a heated steering wheel and a system that warns of the presence of other vehicles behind (including when the Dayz is moving in reverse). They also improved the automatic braking system. Finally, LED headlights are now available not only for the upscale Dayz Highway Star but also for the “regular” Dayz in the second most senior configuration.

At the same time, special versions have been introduced: the Bolero for the regular kei car and the Urban Chrome for the “youth” version. The Bolero variant features white wheels, roof, door handles, and outer mirror housings, as well as a combination upholstery (fabric + “soft leather”). The Dayz Highway Star Urban Chrome version has darkened chrome accents, original design wheels, silver mirror housings, and water-repellent seat upholstery.

The technology remains the same. These compacts are equipped with a 660cc naturally aspirated engine producing 52 hp, and there’s also a turbocharged version with 64 hp. Additionally, there’s a starter-generator that provides an extra 2.7 hp to assist during the initial acceleration. These kei cars come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and are available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations.

The updated models will arrive at Japanese dealerships by the end of the year, and prices have already been announced. The regular Nissan Dayz starts at $9,600, while the Dayz Highway Star starts at a minimum of $11,400.

In the meantime, the Nissan Dayz has become the donor for the Nissan Sakura electric car. However, the “green” kei car only made its debut last year, so it isn’t due for a facelift just yet.
