The five-door model is the first production model of another subsidiary brand of the Chinese manufacturer. The new offering is available as a hybrid and a full-fledged electric car.
This year, Changan’s already extensive portfolio was expanded with another sub-brand called Qiyuan. The brand was created for electrified “smart” models, and its firstborn is the liftback with the designation A07. The public premiere of the novelty took place in the summer, and a couple of weeks ago, pre-orders were opened in China. Now, live sales have begun. It’s worth noting that the liftback body style has gained popularity within Changan. For example, under the parent brand, they produce the five-door Uni-V (which is also available in Russia), and the sub-brand Deepal (also known as Deep Blue or Shenlan) has the SL03 model in its lineup. By the way, the latest liftback is the closest relative of the Qiyuan A07. Moreover, the concepts of the Deepal and Qiyuan brands are very similar.
Regardless, both the Qiyuan A07 and Deepal SL03 are based on the EPA1 platform. The new liftback is longer and wider than its counterpart, measuring 4905 mm in length and 1910 mm in width compared to 4820 mm and 1890 mm. The height and wheelbase of the cars are the same, at 1480 mm and 2900 mm, respectively. The A07’s trunk volume is 384 liters under the shelf, which increases to 1100 liters with the second row folded (the SL03 is stated to have a single figure of 473 liters). The Qiyuan liftback comes with 18-inch wheels, and 19-inch wheels are available as an option.
The exterior design features of the A07 include a two-tiered headlight arrangement, frameless doors with retractable handles, and rear lights designed as a single strip. Inside, there’s a minimalist approach. There’s no separate instrument cluster; its role is taken over by a projection display. In the center, there’s a 15.4-inch touchscreen for the multimedia system. The liftback also features a “floating” center tunnel with platforms for wireless charging.
The model also comes with a glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats (with a massager), surround-view cameras, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist systems. Additionally, the Changan Qiyuan A07 boasts “personalized emotional sound effects”: you can program notifications that will play when you get into the car or, conversely, when you exit it.
The liftback is available as a plug-in hybrid or a full-fledged electric car, and both versions are rear-wheel drive, with the traction electric motor located on the rear axle. The technology is the same as in the similar Deepal SL03 models. The hybrid A07 is equipped with a 218-horsepower electric motor and a 95-horsepower 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine, which is used solely for recharging the 28.4 kWh battery. The range for this Qiyuan is 170 km according to the WLTC cycle. The electric car is powered by a 258-horsepower motor and a 58.1 kWh battery, providing a range of 515 km, although it is calculated using the more optimistic CLTC cycle.
