The first generation Honda/Acura NSX, developed in the late 80s and produced in Japan from 1990 to 2005, became a real classic and was nicknamed the “Japanese Ferrari” for its spectacular design and honed driving habits, it was a truly global model and sold with a circulation of 18,685 copies.

Acura NSX first and second generations

The life of the “second” NSX turned out to be much shorter and more modest: in the period from May 2016 to November 2022, more than 2800 units were produced. (the manufacturer has not yet named the exact figure, unofficial sources report that 2908 units were produced). The second generation NSX was already being developed purposefully for the premium Acura brand and assembled in the USA, although the model was exported (mainly to Europe and Japan) as the Honda NSX.

Honda has invested heavily in the new NSX and equipped it with a technically sophisticated and highly efficient hybrid power plant, but, unfortunately, could not “invent” a truly cool design for the second generation supercar and did not try to change it during restyling.

The restyling of the second NSX, in fact, was not, but there was a rather large-scale modernization, during which many changes were made to the power plant, and the body received new aerodynamic elements. The updated car was introduced in August last year as the Acura NSX Type S and it was immediately announced that the Type S will be limited to only 350 copies. The final copy with serial number 350 is painted in Gotham Gray.

Recall that the power plant of the “second” NSX consists of a 3.5-liter gasoline “biturbo engine” V6, located longitudinally in front of the rear axle, an electric motor and a 9-speed automatic transmission of the DCT type (with two clutches) are docked to it, which rotates the rear wheels. The front wheels are driven by two separate electric motors powered by a buffer battery. The maximum cumulative output of the power plant in the Type S version is 608 hp. and 667 Nm, acceleration to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) takes less than 3 seconds, top speed is 307 km/h. The curb weight of the Acura NSX Type S as standard is 1796 kg, with the Lightweight Package option with an extended set of carbon fiber parts – 1770 kg.

What will replace the hybrid NSX is already known – it will be an all-electric supercar, one of two that Honda announced in April this year , but, unfortunately, so far without any details and launch dates. In the meantime, the PMC manufactory will be engaged in the manual assembly of special versions of other Acura models, in particular the TLX Type S PMC Edition sedan, which differs from the standard TLX Type S only in trim. Whether the masters of PMC will be entrusted with the assembly of a new electric supercar or, like the first NSX, will be made in Japan is still unknown.
